Hey y'all, I'm a week and a half late with this, but here's a tool that simplifies the process of loading in new images in the sprite manager in Clover's Star Rod.

It's a fairly simple process, you simply load up the xml file of the sprite you want to edit in your Star Rod mod sprite folder. Then you can load in new images. If the checkbox next to the add button is checked when loading in images, it'll create a new palette to cover all the loaded images. Else it'll apply the current selected palette to the image. After saving the changes, you can see the new images in the Star Rod's Sprite Manager tool.

The program automatically brings down the color count of all imported images down to 16, so you don't need to stress out too much about making it look perfect. If you have any questions about use or the source code, this is the place to voice them.

Hmm, I seem to be having an odd issue with this. I imported the sprites successfully, but when I load the partner I changed the sprites of the Project64 reports a fatal error and stops the emulation. Not sure why.

Is there any dimension rules I need to follow for the sprites?

If I manually add them the old way using gimp they seem to turn out fine.

I really hope to be able to use this, it's so much easier than manually adding them.

Well, I got it to not crash, but now it just turns into a square pixelated mess when using this tool.

Does it load into the Star Rod tool correctly? Which partner are you editing?

I was replacing Kooper's sprites and Star Rod displays the new ones perfectly, but once I switch to Kooper in game sometimes it crashes and sometimes it turns into a square box of pixels depending on how I add the sprites, the sprite size is 96x96 if that matters.
